Old Timey Lye Soap: Many
years ago this recipe was used by frontier homesteaders for
cleaning just about anything. It's made the old way in a
big kettle over an open fire using hog fat, spring water and
lye. This soap is gentle and mild. (Granny woulda been proud
of this soap!) This recipe does contain animal fats. It
is said to be very good for complexion, to dry and heal poison
ivy as well as a mild laundry soap. Personally we use this
soap for our laundry, one bar will make up to five gallons of
liquid soap. Please
e-mail us
for a liquid laundry soap recipe.
Hands Only Bars: Hands Only is our original Old
Timey Lye Soap with added ingredients: aggressive pumice,
borax, and essential oils of Orange, Sweet Birch and Cedarwood.
This soap works well for farmers and mechanics as it removes
grease, tar and oil. This soap contains NO petroleums or
detergents and is made with animal fats just as our Old Timey
Lye soap. It does contain an aggressive pumice and therefore
should only be used on hands.
